New Smart ForTwo Cabrio (USA)
Three weeks after the Smart ForTwo
Cabrio went on sale in Europe, Americans welcome the least expensive
convertible on the market.
The first examples will arrive at US
dealers this fall and for US$ 18,900, you will get the entry-level Passion grade,
with a five-speed manual transmission, but if you opt for the six-speed
dual-clutch automatic, it starts from US$ 19,890, with both prices excluding a US$ 750 destination and delivery charge.
If things may seem somewhat affordable
so far, keep in mind that the manufacturer also offers two additional trim
levels, the mid-range Prime and the top-of-the-line Proxy. Choose the latter
and get some optional features and you will have to pay at least US$ 21,000 for
the convertible city car.
All versions of the new Smart ForTwo
Cabrio carry a soft-top that has the ability to retract automatically in 12
seconds. The roof can be had in either black or dark red, at no extra cost, but
if you want to enjoy the full convertible experience, then you have to pull
over, remove the roof bars by hand and store them in the tailgate.
