Nissan Navara SUV
In May, the first test mule of the
Nissan Navara-based SUV was spotted in Australia, confirming that the Japanese
manufacturer is working on a new ladder-frame based SUV. Based on the current
Navara’s exterior, Andrey Kirichenko has created a rendering of the unnamed
SUV.
The front-end appears to be identical to
the Nissan Navara NP300, although it is likely to be slightly tweaked when it
becomes official. It could either be a successor to the off-road oriented
Nissan X-Terra, introduced to the world as a brand new body-on-frame SUV, or
sold as part of the Navara range.
Under the hood, the Navara SUV could
pack the 2.5 litre YD25DDTi four-cylinder turbodiesel engine from the pickup,
which is capable of 190 PS at 3,600 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.
Transmission options could include a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic
gearbox, with two- or four-wheel drive configurations.
In markets like Australia and ASEAN
countries, the Nissan Navara-based SUV will enter a competitive segment that
comprises of popular SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and
Chevrolet Trailblazer, all of which are derivatives of their respective pick-up
sibling.
