1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica
There were only 18 of this marque built
and of that number this is the first. The 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica LWB
Coupé Aerodinamico, is more than just a mouthful; it was tremendously popular
during its time and is arguably the best representation of Ferrari’s grand
touring automobiles despite the fact that it resulted in a series of examples
and isolated models rather than a family of cars. It was first introduced by
Ferrari at the 1962 Earls Court and Chicago Motor Show.
The 400 Superamerica Aerodinamico was
introduced to remedy the heavy and unforgiving driving experience of the 342
America and the 410 Superamerica. To set itself apart from its predecessor, the
410 Superamerica, it incorporated a number of changes, the most important of
which was a new Colombo short-block V12 engine.
The 400 Superamerica was the first
Series II car with a longer wheelbase. This model has a 4-litre SOHC V12 with
three Weber 40 DCZ 6 carburettors and four-speed manual transmission with
overdrive that puts out 340-hp with top speeds of 164-mph.
The 400 Superamerica with its sleek
aerodynamic design, chassis 3931 SA, was once a part of the Yoshiho Matsuda
collection and is, according to Autoblog, expected to fetch a US$ 3.6 million sale
price at the RM Sotheby’s Auction in Paris on February 3, 2016.
