2020 BMW 8-Series

BMW 8-Series is set to make a comeback as the Munich-based automaker develops a rival to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet duo.

That's the latest news from BMW Blog, who claim that the model has already received the internal codename G14/G15 and will actually replace both the 6-Series Coupe and Convertible when it hits the market in late 2019 or early 2020.

The 8-Series will be underpinned by BMW's CLAR architecture, Automobile Magazine reports, and offered in a plethora of variations allowing it to compete with the S-Class: a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 should power range-topping models with up to 650 hp on tap, while a smaller 450 hp 3.0-liter straight six is also said to be on the cards. An efficient plug-in hybrid with either a four or six-cylinder petrol engine will be offered as well.

Since it's going after the Merc, it is expected to combine luxury with. As such, all of the advanced technologies of the current 7-Series can be expected alongside a flexible and sporty chassis with a host of suspension and powertrain modes to suit every occasion.
