Audi Q5
Audi continues the development of the
next-generation Q5 and one prototypehas just been snapped in the States.
The camouflaged test mule was spotted by
Denzel Gaines on Route 46 in New Jersey. The new Q5 will be based on the
MLB-evo platform, just like the current A4 does, allowing for a significant
reduction in weight and more room inside, among other things.
It will also follow the A4’s and Q7’s
footsteps design-wise, with Audi taking the current car’s shape and giving it a
refresh to match the rest of the brand’s lineup. Features like the latest front
grille, LED headlights and a set of 3D-like taillights are a given.
The cabin is expected to set the
segment’s quality bar even higher, with better soft-touch plastics mixed with
high-resolution displays and the traditional Audi feel-good factor. As for the
engines, there’s going to be a wide range of petrol and diesel units, ranging
from four-cylinders to V6s matched with front- and all-wheel drive Quattro
versions. Depending on the engine, Audi will offer a six-speed manual, a
seven-speed dual-clutch or an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Set to be built in the company’s new
plant in Mexico, the new Audi Q5 is also rumored to get an all-electric version
as part of the Group’s greater electrification plan.
