Hennessey Venom GT Spyder
Hennessey Performance is
celebrating its 25th anniversary by announcing the Venom GT Spyder has a set
new world record. An official announcement is scheduled for Monday April 11th
but the teaser video suggests the car beat its previous speed record of 270.4
miles per hour which was set at the Kennedy Space Center in 2014.
Nothing is official but
Hennessey used last year's SEMA Motor Show to introduce an updated version of
the Venom GT Spyder. It features an
improved biturbo 7.0-liter V8 engine which can run on E85 Flexfuel. This change enables the engine's boost
pressure to be increased from 19 pounds per square inch to 26 psi.
The engine produces an
impressive 1,451 horsepower which is an increase of 207 hp. The company estimated it will enable the car
to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 2.4 seconds before hitting a top
speed in excess of 280 mph.
If that latter figure pans
out, the Venom GT Spyder will easily beat the Bugatti Chiron which is
electronically-limited to 261 mph in Top Speed mode. However, it is important to note Bugatti has
previously said the limited top speed is "by no means the end of the
road" for the Chiron.
