MAN TGE
VW Group owns two major
players in the heavy truck industry, Scania and MAN, and the latter has decided
to enter uncharted territories with the all-new TGE.
Targeting other lightweight commercial
vehicles, the MAN TGE is essentially a re-badged version of the Volkswagen
Crafter, which remains mostly identical to the original model, apart for some
visual tweaks on the front end and inside.
Two wheelbases, three roof heights and
as different lengths are available for clients to choose from, as the closed
delivery vans range from 5,983 mm to 7,388 mm long, while the
heights between 2,340 mm and 2,800 mm. Depending on the version
selected, the maximum load volume stands at up to 18.3 cubic meters.
Offered in both single and crew cab
variants, with FWD, RWD or AWD, the MAN TGE is powered by a selection of
2.0-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine, with single or twin turbochargers,
producing between 102 PS and 177 PS, coupled to a 6-speed
manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic.
Fatigue recognition, multi-collision
brake, distance-regulated cruise control, back up assist, Emergency Brake
Assist, electromechanical power steering and others can be had at no extra cost
or by checking the options list.
MAN will offer the TGE on sale in
Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands starting next June, two
months after production commences. Additional European countries will take
delivery of the commercial van in fall, though chances of it reaching North
American shores are slim.
