New Mercedes-Benz Camper Van
Thanks to Mercedes-Benz's
Viano Marco Polo, camping isn’t limited to spending your night in a tent
anymore. At the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, Germany, the car maker presented
new camper vans based on its commercial vehicles.
These vehicles are fitted with a series
of practical features, including stowage solutions and seating/sleeping
arrangements, but if the regular Marco Polo Editions doesn’t cut it for the
average camper, Mercedes-Benz Vans is presenting alternative body and
conversion solutions for every vehicle across its portfolio. The HYMERCAR Grand
Canyon S (based on the Sprinter), and the Terracamper and Hartmann-designed
Vansportscamper (based on the Vito Tourer SELECT), are the latest additions to
the line-up.
Like the standard Marco Polo Edition and
Marco Polo Activity Edition, these models offer the same level of versatility,
with the HYMERCAR Grand Canyon S sporting a high degree of comfort, including a
transverse bed, a kitchenette, and a fully equipped bathroom. It also features
a plethora of safety gizmos and driving aids, such Crosswind Assist, Lane
Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, High Beam Assist, and Collision Prevention
Assist.
The Vansportscamper, on the other hand,
uses the Vito Tourer as its base vehicle, offering a compact camper van
alternative, which neatly combines “expressive design with sportiness” –
according to Mercedes-Benz. Available with rear-wheel-drive and
all-wheel-drive, in three engine variants, the Vansportscamper comes with a
matt-black sleeper roof, matt black aluminum wheels, and detachable body parts.
There’s even a Citan with a TopDog
rooftop tent, available as the smallest member of the line-up. It can easily be
converted into a camper van for up to two people thanks to the rooftop tent
solution from 3DOG, which includes a self-contained living space and integrated
floor.
