Tesla Model S P100D Ludicrous
Tesla revealed details on its new
range-topping versions of the Model S and Model X which are set to get a new
100kWh battery pack.
The company claims that the Model S
P100D with Ludicrous mode is the quickest-accelerating current production car
you can buy right now, with a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds.
The new bigger battery pack also
increases the driving range to an EPA-estimated 315 miles and 613 km on the EU
cycle, making it the company’s first model to go beyond the 300-mile mark and
the longest-range production electric vehicle on the market.
Numbers as just as impressive for the
Model X P100D with Ludicrous mode as it’s now able to hit 60 in 2.9 seconds and
travel up to an EPA-estimated 289 miles and 542 km on the EU cycle.
Tesla says that current owners of the
P90D Ludicrous versions can upgrade to the 100kWh pack for an extra US$ 20,000
which includes the cost of having their old battery packs recycled. Customers
who have ordered a P90D Ludicrous and haven’t yet taken delivery can upgrade to
the new spec for US$ 10,000.
The base price for a Model S P100D is
now set at US$ 134,500 with the Model X still to be revealed.
