Tesla Model S P100D (Rumor)
Tesla is edging closer to launching a
100kWh battery pack for its models in Europe after it was discovered that the
enlarged battery has received approval by the Dutch Vehicle Approval Authority.
While the American automaker hasn't
confirmed work on such a model, a hacker discovered a P100D badge in a piece of
Tesla firmware back in March, triggering speculation that the even more
advanced variant is on the way.
This latest news, courtesy of Kenteken,
reveals that in the European Union, the 100kWh battery pack has been rated at a
range of 613 km, easily eclipsing the 509 km range
offered for Tesla's P90 models in Europe.
There's an excellent chance that the
enlarged battery pack will be offered for both the Model S and Model X in both
single and dual electric motor configurations. This also means that customers
will have the option of ordering the new battery with the Ludicrous upgrade and
given the improved power (equivalent to around 800 hp), P100D models will
accelerate faster than any Tesla before.
It's not yet known when the 100kWh
battery will become available but expect a worldwide roll-out next year.
