VW Golf Hatchback All-Wheel Drive (USA)
Volkswagen is pondering the possibility of offering
all-wheel drive to the standard Golf hatchback in North America. The Truth About Cars report that such a
model is seriously being considered by the German manufacturer.
The addition of all-wheel drive
production at VW's manufacturing facility in Mexico has opened up this possibility
as the firm hopes to attract customers away from Subaru and its entry-level,
all-wheel drive models.
VW will offers the Golf R and Golf Alltrack
exclusively with all-wheel drive, so implementing the system into the standard
Golf hatchback wouldn't be difficult.
At this stage, it isn't known if having drive sent
to all four wheels would be an optional extra available to all standard Golf
variants and configurations or if it would serve as a standalone model.
