2017 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost
Ford released the improved fuel economy figures of
the 2017 F-150 pickup which now comes with an all-new 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine
paired to an also new 10-speed automatic gearbox.
This is the first volume-production
10-speed automatic transmission that together with the second-gen 3.5-litre V6
EcoBoost engine helps the F-150 to improve its fuel economy ratings in all
areas -city, highway and combined- by 1 mpg over the 2WD 2016 model. 4x4 models
return 2mpg combined more than last year’s F-150.
The new engine produces 375 hp and a class-leading
470 lb-ft of torque, gaining 10 hp and 50 lb-ft over the first-gen unit. Key
improvements include a new twin-port and direct-injection fuel injection,
lighter and stronger crank and valvetrain components, redesigned turbochargers
with electronic wastegate and redesigned valvetrain and variable-displacement
oil pump.
The new powertrain promises to deliver improved
acceleration, performance and refinement and more specifically better low-end
and peak performance, which is ideal for hauling heavy payloads and towing
heavy trailers.
