Mazda MX-5 Speedster Evo & RF Kuro Concepts
Mazda will bring two
concepts based on the MX-5 to this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas, after
releasing two teaser images of them.
The first one is called the Speedster Evolution and
-you guessed it- it’s an evolved form of last year’s Speedster concept.
Finished in White Ether, the Speedster Evolution takes the lightweight concept
even further with more than over 45 kg removed from last year’s show
car. Tipping the scales at just under 2,000 lbs, the new MX-5 Speedster
Evolution is around 160 kg lighter than a stock Miata with a soft top.
The next concept is the RF Kuro and it’s based on
the Retractable Fastback version that will hit the streets on early 2017.
Finished in a semi-matte charcoal metallic developed in-house (Kuro means
charcoal in Japanese), the second concept comes fitted with a set of 17in RAYS
forged wheels dressed with sticky tires and the same adjustable suspension used
in the MX-5 Cup series.
Mazda had both concepts created and built in-house
by their design team in Irvine, California in order to demonstrate “the
contrasting directions that create a ‘Mazda Premium’ experience”. The two concepts will be displayed at Mazda’s stand
in the SEMA show on November 1.
