Mercedes-AMG G63 Edition 463
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has officially launched the
G-Class facelift in the country. The CBU G-Wagen goes on sale here in a single
variant form, in this case the Mercedes-AMG G 63. It’s priced at RM 1,181,888
on-the-road, excluding insurance.
The G 63 is powered by a M157 5.5 litre twin-turbo
mill V8, which in the mild refresh had its output bumped up to 563 hp at 5,500 rpm and 760 Nm from 1,750 to 5,250 rpm. It’s paired with an AMG
Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic 7-speed transmission, and performance figures
include a 210 km/h top speed and a 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds.
All the things that have made the proven body and
ladder-type frame offering what it is has been retained, including the rigid
axles front and back and a recirculating-ball steering. There’s
permanent all-wheel drive, a low-range gearbox and three differential locks
that can be engaged/disengaged while on the move.
Not many physical changes with the 2015 update, but
new colour packages came about, and exclusive exterior paint finishes in solar
beam, tomato red, alien green, sunset beam and galactic beam are cost options
that are available for the wagen.
The interior topstitching follows
suit, colour-matched to the paintwork. It’s all minor, the cosmetic
revisions. For the interior, a new instrument cluster makes the biggest shout
out for new, includes a tablet-style central display and a harman/kardon
Logic 7 surround sound system.
Mechanical changes are primarily with the G-Wagen’s
suspension, which has been revised with optimised shock absorbers for improved
body control and ride comfort, while an adapted ESP setup provides enhanced
driving dynamics as well as increased driving stability and safety.
Optimisations to ASR and ABS, have improved traction while
shortening the braking distances.
The launch vehicle you see in the photos is a
special Edition 463 model, which adds on a host of sportier looking bits on the
G 63. The exterior gets dressed with a stainless steel underguard, AMG racing
stripe decals on the sides and a protective-strip insert in a dark aluminium
look as well as 21-inch five-twin-spoke forged alloy wheels finished in matt
black.
The Edition 463 comes fitted
with AMG carbon-fibre trim and a designo Exclusive package. Elements include
two-tone seats with side bolsters in carbon-look leather, and the seats and
door centre panels feature designo leather with a diamond quilt design. There’s
also a two-tone instrument panel and a Seat Comfort package in the mix.
