New BMW 5-Series GT
BMW is reportedly planning to change their range
strategy with the 5-Series GT successor, slotting the new model into the
6-Series line-up.
UK magazine Autocar reports that the new 6-Series GT
will allegedly indirectly replace the 6-Series Gran Coupe, which apparently is
not as popular as BMW wanted, once it hits the market in 2018.
BMW is going to revise their stylish approach with
the new car, with their goal to be the creation of a much more acceptable shape
than that of the current 5-Series GT model. The front end will likely
faithfully follow the footsteps of the regular 5-Series that was just revealed,
while the rear will have a slicker, cleaner design.
BMW’s CLAR architecture means that the new 6-Series
GT will benefit from the same weight-saving measures applies on the regular
5-Series, dropping the weight figure as much as 100 kg.
The engine range will mirror that of the regular
5-Series as well, including the plug-in powertrain of the 530e. As always,
rear-wheel drive versions will be offered as standard, with the xDrive AWD ones
being optional. The new model will be revealed close to mid-2017.
