SAF Landfort and Striker
A new national
carmaker by the name of SAF will join the market in April this year, bringing
with it two models, the Landfort SUV and Striker pick-up truck.
Both models mentioned are essentially rebadged
versions of models from Chinese brand Foday, namely the Landfort seven-seater
SUV and the Lion F22 pick-up truck. Therefore, they will look identical to the
Foday models, and will be built at Oriental Assemblers in Tampoi, Johor, the
same company that makes Chery models for Malaysia.
Only one engine will be
available at launch, a 2.4 litre Mitsubishi-derived petrol unit, which produces
134 hp at 5,250 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 2,500 to 3,000 rpm. The engine is
mated to either a five-speed manual or six-speed auto, with a choice of two- or
four-wheel drive (Striker pick-up will be 4×4 only).
Both the Striker and Landfort are
EEV certified, and expected to retail for under RM 130,000. The company aims to
sell 100 units of each as a start, and currently has 20 SAF 3S dealerships nationwide,
including in East Malaysia.
