2016 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Commemorative Edition
Suzuki says the 2016 GSX-R1000 continues to
deliver the power, performance and style that has made it the most successful
literbike in American Superbike racing. Its 999 cc inline four-cylinder
powerplant features Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve fuel injection and lightweight,
forged pistons engineered using Finite Element Method analysis. Pentagonal
ventilation holes in the sides of each cylinder bore reduce pumping losses and
increase engine efficiency.
Engineers developed the camshaft profiles using
proven MotoGP racing engine technology to acheive race-winning levels of power
delivery. Eight 12-hole fuel injectors produce a fine fuel spray for more
complete combustion, reducing fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. The GSX-R1000 is equipped with the unique S-DMS system, which uses three
separate engine maps to let a rider adjust power delivery to suit personal
preferences and riding conditions.
This GSX-R’s lightweight and compact twin-spar
aluminum-alloy frame is constructed of five cast sections to produce a balance
of lightweight and strength. The frame is mated with an arched swingarm made of
three castings, and a one-piece die-cast rear sub-frame. A Showa Big Piston
front fork (BPF) uses an endurance-race-proven lightweight design that delivers
superb feedback and response. Spring preload, rebound and compression damping
are all fully adjustable. At the rear, a single, link-style shock absorber
features adjustable rebound damping, spring preload, and both high-speed and
low-speed compression damping. Three-spoke cast-aluminum-alloy wheels front and
rear hold light, high-grip tires for sharp handling.
The dual front disc brakes are equipped with
radial-mount Brembo monobloc calipers and 310mm floating brake rotors. The rear
brake system with single-piston caliper contributes low unsprung weight. An
electronically controlled steering damper provides lighter steering at slower
speeds and more damping force at racetrack and highway speeds. Rider comfort
and control is enhanced by three-way adjustable footpegs, and an adjustable
shift lever. Instruments include a silver-ringed analog tachometer with LCD
speedometer. LCD readouts include odometer, dual trip meter, reserve trip
meter, clock, coolant temperature/oil pressure warning indicator, gear position
indicator, lap timer/stopwatch, S-DMS setting indicator and bar-graph
indicating the instrument lighting level or brightness.
A pair of Commemorative
Edition 2016 GSX-R1000 models celebrate the revolutionary 1985 introduction of
the GSX-R. A Blue-White model pays homage to the original GSX-R, which featured
classic blue-on-white stripes. A Red-Black model honors the Yoshimura Suzuki riders
who excelled at the Suzuka 8 Hour endurance races in the 1980s. Both have an
exclusive “30 Years of Performance” badge and special wheel striping to signify
their limited production status. Suggested retail price is US$ 13,899.
