2017 BMW 5-Series Touring (spy shot)

Since BMW has already revealed in full the all-new 5-Series sedan, prototypes of the Touring version have been spotted with most of their camouflage peeled off their bodywork.

The new G30 5-Series Touring will benefit from the same array of active systems that debuted in the saloon version, including semi-autonomous driving functions and a full range of the latest electronic safety systems.

The engine range will mirror that of the saloon’s, including the plug-in hybrid powertrain found in the new 530e which combines a four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-litre with an electric motor for a total output of 249 hp. BMW will offer all-wheel drive as an option to every engine option while an eight-speed automatic will be fitted as standard to each engine.

The most powerful engine planned for the new 5-Series Touring still unknown, with the regular 5-Series saloon getting a 455 hp twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 in the range-topping M550i xDrive version, capable of a 0-100 km/h in 4 seconds.

It won’t take long for BMW to reveal the wagon version of the new G30 5-Series, with the latest rumors talking about a debut this January in the Detroit Motor Show.
