BMW continues the development of the third-gen X3
which was spotted this time with significant less camouflage, revealing in much
detail its final production body.
The testers of the all-new Bavarian premium SUV got
rid of the plastic cladding, leaving only the classic wrap hiding parts of the
body. Even the front and rear lights look like they’re the finished production
items which should mean that the official reveal date of the all-new BMW X3 is
approaching.
The new model will be based on the company’s
scalable CLAR architecture, allowing it not only to be up to 100 kg lighter than the current X3 but also make it compatible with plug-in hybrid
powertrains as well.
Codenamed G01, the third generation of the X3 is
expected to be offered both in RWD sDrive and AWD xDrive versions, with a wide
range of petrol and diesel engines to choose from. BMW has been making one of
the most fun-to-drive crossovers in the market for quite some time now and this
appears to continue with the new X3, as the company was caught benchmarking it
against the Porsche Macan.
The range-topping version will be for the first time
a fully-fledged M version with around 500 hp, but this is expected to arrive at
a later stage. BMW’s boss also confirmed that they will build a fully electric
version of the X3, scheduled to arrive in 2020.
BMW is expected to reveal the new X3 in early 2017,
with the car entering production towards the end of the summer.
