2019 Porsche 911
Porsche was spotted testing the
next generation of 911 model, retains the
familiar looks even though it's all change underneath.
Weissach is developing a new modular platform for
the next 911, one that will make the iconic sportscar compatible with plug-in
hybrid powertrains as well as add more flexibility concerning the rest of the
engine lineup.
The new platform will also
underpin the next generation of the mid-engined Cayman/Boxster models, with
rumors even talking about being used in upcoming Lamborghini models as well as
the next Audi R8.
The test mule itself doesn’t reveal much, apart from
its wider body, which indicates that both front and rear tracks on the new
model will increase. Don’t expect any major changes on the styling of
the 911, with the most major changes expected to be the adoption of specific
design cues from the Mission E concept.
One of the key questions will be whether Porsche
will use a naturally aspirated flat six in the hardcore GT3 and GT3 RS models
or replace it with a turbocharged unit. We have a long way until we get a
definitive answer to this, as the 991.2 is still waiting for various versions
to arrive, including the GTS, GT3, GT3 RS and of course the king of the range,
the GT2 RS.
The first full body prototypes of the next-gen 911
are expected to hit the public roads during the next couple of months.
