McLaren F1 GTR
McLaren has paid tribute to one of the vehicles
that started it all, the famed F1 GTR Longtail.
Based around the highly-successful, Le Mans-winning
F1 GTR, the Longtail took performance and aerodynamics to new heights as
endurance racing competition heated up between manufacturers.
Compared to the F1 GTR, the Longtail was 135 kg
lighter and adopted distinctive bodywork, including the famed stretched rear-end.
Just 10 race-going units were produced, and possibly the most popular of them
is the Gulf Racing example pictured.
Chassis 20R was originally delivered to the
Gulf-Davidoff GTC Motorsport team and finished second at the Le Mans 24 Hours
in 1997. Although it failed to match the success of the original F1 GTR, it
remains one of the finest road-based race cars to ever compete in endurance
racing. It is now owned by McLaren itself and looks absolutely
breathtaking.
