Peugeot GenZe

Mahindra GenZe is an electric scooter which has been purpose built for the developed nations. Designed and developed in the US by Mahindra North American Technical Center (MNATC) – a completely owned subsidiary of Mahindra Group, the scooter has now made its European debut at EICMA 2016.

Mahindra GenZe rebadged as the Peugeot GenZe. This confirms that Mahindra will use Peugeot brand to market their electric scooter in Europe. Back in 2014, Mahindra bought controlling stake in Peugeot scooter business.

The new Peugeot GenZe electric scooter targets short distance commuters like college students and young professionals. The funky two wheeler is based on an aluminium exoskeleton chassis with minimal body work. Salient features include LED headlights, an underseat storage space with a charging socket that is compatible with all electronic gadgets including laptops, a 7-inch Cruise-Connect touchscreen instrument console, removable Li-ion SmartPack battery, regenerative braking and disc brakes at both wheels.

Peugeot GenZe is propelled by a hub-mounted brushless permanent magnet motor with an impressive peak torque of 130 Nm. A portable 1.6 KWh li-ion battery is the source of electricity. It achieves full charge in 3.5 hours and a range of 48.3 km. The top speed stands at 48.3 km/h so riders needn’t have motorcycle license. Three riding modes are on offer – Sport, Economy and Easy.

The Peugeot GenZe electric scooter is on sale in the US at a price of USD 2,999. It is expected to be launched in Europe next year.
