Toyota line-up (2016 SEMA)
Toyota revealing no
less than 30 vehicles for this year’s SEMA show, and these are six of the most
extreme builds.
Each project
either honors the past, explores the present, or reveals the future, being one
of the biggest exhibits in the event’s history. That said, here are the
vehicles Toyota took out of their comfort zone with a plethora of
modifications.
The Land Speed Cruiser may look like a lowered,
slightly modified Land Cruiser, but it actually takes the notion of the big SUV
and throws it in the bin. This concept was
built for pure speed – hence the name – which may explain its 2000 hp 3UR-FE
5.7-liter V8 under the hood. The obscene amount of power makes it top out at 354 km/h, leaving most sports car in the dust.
The XTREME Corolla takes the core values of Toyota’s
compact vehicle to the extreme. Using aggressive, yet bespoke style cues, the
Corolla was converted into a clumsy looking two-door, thanks to the car maker’s collaboration with Cartel Customs. Its interior also
received a one-of-a-kind floating center console, and a JBL sound system.
The blue Sienna is called the Swagger Wagon and it’s
described the equivalent of a flying jet; the pinnacle of luxury
transportation, in Toyota’s vision. The lowered and widen minivan comes with
plenty of exterior carbon-fiber and race-inspired enhancements, but the interior
is its pièce de résistance. Thanks to a high-end theater system, wi-fi
connectivity, and a custom-built leather interior, you won’t care how it looks
on the outside.
The Prius G prove that
hybrids can handle. Toyota says it sticks to the road like bubble-gum, so much
so that it pulled 0.99 g on the skid pad at Willow Springs International
Raceway. What’s even more astonishing is that although It’s inspired by the
Prius GT300 race car, it’s still your run-of-the-mill hybrid underneath.
The GT86 CS-Cup and the Tacoma TRD Pro Race aren't
show cars, but full-fat performance automobiles, used by in different racing
series. While the GT86 is designed as a for a one-make overseas series, the
Tacoma is the newest addition to Toyota’s TRD
collection and it will race at “The Great American Off-Road Race”—the 2017 MINT
400.
