2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE (spy shot)
Mercedes-Benz may have updated the M-Class and
renamed it the GLE, but the full-sized luxury SUV is still based on the old
architecture.
The engineers at Stuttgart have already started
working on the next generation model, which will be based on the new Modular
High Architecture (MHA).
The next GLE will not
only lose some weight, but it will also adopt some of the features found on the
latest E-Class, such as semi-autonomous driving technology.
The styling is expected to follow Merc's new design
language, while an assortment of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel units
will be available. A plug-in hybrid is set to follow it shortly after its
launch, topped only by the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine in the AMG version.
The new GLE is expected to launch in 2018, as a 2019MY, and will eventually be
joined by the sportier GLE Coupe.
