Beijing Auto BJ20 special edition
Beijing Auto is going to launch two factory-specials of the polarizing BJ20 SUV, one sporty and one classy. The sporty one
looks brilliant. It is painted in matte gray and dressed up with an orange air
duct, an orange skid pad, orange wheel arches, and a roof rack with four orange
search lights.
The orange fest continues at the back with an extra large orange
font for the Beijing name and an orange skid pad
again. Sadly it doesn’t get more power. Engine is the same Mitsubishi-sourced
4A91T 1.5 turbo with 150 Hp and 210 Nm. Transmission is a six-speed manual or a
CVT, sending power to all four wheels.
Moving on to the classy car. It looks very luxurious with a lot of
piano black bits. The entire roof and pillars are in black, and so is the air
duct, the bumpers, and the wheel arches. No roof rack on this one. Same font as on the sporty car but finished in shiny gray. Bumper
in piano black.
It is very nice that Beijing Auto is experimenting with colors and
kinda, but what the Beijing BJ20 really needs is more power. One hundred fifty
horses is just not enough in a brick-like car with a curb weight of 1440 kilo.
Nevertheless, the BJ20 is a great and daring looking car, and sport
version especially turns up the crazy knob a few clicks more. The new variants
will hit the market in early 2017.
