Donkervoort New D8 GTO-RS
The Netherland's sports car manufacturer,
Donkervoort, has just unveiled its latest iteration of the potent D8 sports
car, dubbed the GTO-RS.
Power for the model continues to come from an
Audi-sourced 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine. The company says it will produce more
torque than ever before and promises even better acceleration. The standard D8
GTO sprints to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds so a time closer to the
2.5 second mark seems possible.
Donkervoort has improved downforce on
the D8 GTO-RS so it now delivers 50 kg over the front axle and 50 kg of
downforce at the rear axle. These gains have been made with a revised front
end, a number of small spoilers and custom vanes. Interestingly, air resistance
has also been reduced by 20 per cent allowing for a greater top speed.
Other upgrades to the D8 GTO-RS over the non-RS
badged model include fully adjustable ABS and traction control systems as well
as a revised suspension system and an automatic double-clutching feature.
A total of 65 examples of the rear-wheel drive
sports car will be built. These consists of 40 ‘standard’ models, 15 ‘Bare
Naked Carbon Edition’ variants and 10 D8 GTO-RS Race Edition models that’ll be
fitted with a non-street legal sequential transmission.
