Mitsubishi Outlander Sport/ASX (spy shot)
Mitsubishi was caught working on their upcoming new
compact crossover by Carscoops spies, a model that’s likely to replace the
Outlander Sport/ASX model on both sides of the Atlantic. The new compact SUV
will be heavily influenced from the 2013 XR-PHEV and 2015 XR-PHEV II concepts,
bringing Mitsubishi’s concept styling finally on the road.
Obviously the sporty look of the concept will be
toned down for the production model but still the new Mitsubishi will come with
a distinctive front end and a sloping roof line, features that have become
almost the norm in the segment.
Reports suggest that Mitsubishi’s all-new model is
going to be more compact than the existing Outlander Sport/ASX in order to
better rival cars like the new Toyota C-HR, the Mazda CX-3 and the Honda HR-V. The dashboard being partially uncovered revealing an all-new layout
with the infotainment screen on top and lots of silver detailing.
Mitsubishi is going to offer their upcoming compact
SUV with a new turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine and a new plug-in hybrid
powertrain, with both of them to be offered with front-wheel drive only. An
all-electric version also rumoured to be on the cards, although if it’s true it
will arrive on a later date.
There is even a chance that we’ll see the Evo badge
returning but all will depend on the commercial success of the base models.
This high-performance version of the new Mitsubishi SUV could be offered with a
plug-in hybrid powertrain and -as you would expect- a trick AWD system.
Mitsubishi is expected to reveal their new model in
2017, with the Geneva Motor Show to be the best candidate event for the
unveiling.
