Ford’s FF1, a Formula Ford-inspired 1.0-litre track
car made its public debut in the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The three-cylinder EcoBoost-powered FF1 sits
side-by-side with some of the world’s most exotic supercars following its astonishing
pace around Germany’s famed Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. The single-seat,
road-legal car with a top speed of almost 160 mph, completed a lap in 7min 22sec
to register the 11th fastest time ever on the circuit putting it ahead of 600+
horsepower supercars such as the Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari Enzo and Pagani
Zonda. No other three- or even four-cylinder car has posted a faster time at
the legendary circuit.
The featherweight
super-efficient FF1 is capable of over 100 mpg without modification, proving
that high performance and fuel economy need not be mutually exclusive. The FF1
will tackle the famous Goodwood hillclimb and it will also be on display in the
FoS-TECH area during the Festival. It has become the UK’s leading exhibition
promoting state-of-the-art green and environmentally friendly technologies as
well as looking into the future of transportation.
Ford is a founding supporter of the Goodwood
Festival of Speed and Revival and will be fully represented at both these
prestigious events in July and September. On its 20th anniversary, the Festival
of Speed celebrated some of the best elements of the event’s highly
successful history.
