Toyota Kirloskar Motor
will introduce the Toyota Corolla Hybrid in India in the middle of this year.
It will be assembled alongside the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
The Corolla Hybrid is only sold in the
Chinese market, which features a slightly more contemporary and sleeker
styling. The Indian model could feature a similar styling for better
differentiation with the regular variants, which are expected to receive a
facelift next month.
The hybrid powertrain in the Corolla is sourced from
the Toyota Prius, which combines an 8ZR-FXE 1.8-litre VVT-i Atkinson cycle
petrol engine that produces 98 hp and 142 Nm of torque and a permanent
magnet synchronous motor that spins out 71 hp and 207 Nm of torque. In
total, the hybrid system develops 134 hp. Power is sent to the wheels
via an electronically-controlled CVT.
With the addition of the Corolla Hybrid, Toyota will
have the most number of hybrid offerings from a mass market manufacturer in the
Indian market.
