The
India-spec 2017 BMW 5 Series sedan (G30) will tipped to launch in the
country this July. The next-gen 5 Series will be
locally assembled at BMW’s plant in Chennai and could be priced between INR 52
Lakhs – INR 65 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The India-spec 5-Series is reported to come with
three variants: 530i, 520d and 530d. The 530i will pack 2.0L 4-cyl turbocharged
engine producing 252 hp, the 520d will be powered by a 2.0L 4-cyl turbodiesel
engine with 190 hp, and the range-topping 530d gets the 3.0l turbodiesel 6-cyl
motor with 256 hp. All three models will come equipped with an 8-speed
automatic gearbox as standard, which sends power to the rear wheels.
Comfort levels are also claimed to be up by a notch,
thanks to the new seats wrapped in high-quality leather upholstery and
increased cabin space. Another noteworthy feature standard on all models is a
spare tire, which is neatly integrated into the boot floor.
The new 5 Series
features an evolutionary new design that draws cues from the current BMW 7
Series. It measures 4,935 mm long, 1,868 mm wide and 1,466 mm high and has a
wheelbase of 2,975 mm. The new 5-er is based on the company’s new CLAR RWD
platform, which has helped shave up to 100 kg of the kerb weight.
The new 5 Series will be as tech-laden as the 7
Series. It sports a levy of new equipment such as a BMW Head-Up Display, iDrive
6 infotainment system with a 10.25-inch high-resolution touchscreen display, an
iDrive controller with gesture control and Remote 3D View, fully-digital
instrument cluster, adaptive driving modes, BMW Display Key with remote parking
and ambient lighting.
