The new Chevrolet Traverse has been unveiled at the
2017 Detroit motor show. The second-generation Traverse once again shares its
platform with the latest GMC Acadia. While the GMC model has been downsized and
can now only seat seven people, the Traverse still has space for eight within
its confines.
The Traverse remains a significantly
bigger beast. Measuring 5189 mm long, 1996 mm wide, 1795 mm tall, and riding on
3071 mm wheelbase, the Traverse is 272 mm longer than Acadia. It’s also 81 mm
wider, 119 mm taller, and has a 213 mm longer wheelbase.
With its increased dimensions, the Traverse can
easily carry more stuff as well, with a rated cargo capacity of 651 litres with
all seats in place, or 2789L with the second and third rows folded down. In
comparison, the Acadia can only manage 362L and 2237L, respectively.
The Traverse is available with two engine choices: a 258 Hp/400 Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, and a 309 Hp/351 Nm
naturally-aspirated 3.6-litre V6. While a nine-speed automatic is standard,
all-wheel drive is only optional on some models.
Top-spec versions of the Traverse are available with
leather and suede interior, 20-inch alloy wheels, a twin-clutch all-wheel drive
system, power folding third row seats, and sliding and tipping second row
seats.
Other available features include an 8.0-inch MyLink
infotainment touchscreen, 4G LTE internet connectivity, Wi-Fi hot spot, LED
headlights, surround view cameras, lane keeping assistance, forward collision
warning, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
