Lexus Malaysia has officially announced the Lexus NX
200t Special Edition. The SE wears a sportier appearance for slightly more money than the entry-level
NX 200t, which gets a massive spec boost for the same price.
The model year 2017 NX range is made up of the
original five variants plus the SE that slots between the base NX 200t and the
NX 200t Premium. It powered by a 2.0 litre turbo engine with 235 hp and 350
Nm.
Lexus says that while the technical specs are
unchanged, there may
be small changes made to parts to make them more durable or operate more
efficiently. These minor model year improvements are typically not made public.
The NX 200t now comes with the model’s distinctive
triple L-shaped full LED headlamps and LED cornering foglamps (LED/halogen
combo and no fog lamps previously). Also in are auto wipers (rain sensor),
Lexus Smart Card keyless entry, new 18-inch wheels in a five-spoke design (up
an inch) and a powered hatch.
The entry variant also gains a panoramic glass roof,
along with the NX 200t SE and NX 200t F Sport. An unchanged sticker price of
RM 309,900 on-the-road excluding insurance means that the base NX 200t – no
longer looking low rent – is significantly better value than before.
The NX 200t SE is based on it, but
blacks out the normally chrome spindle grille frame. On the sides, the wheels
and wing mirror caps have a similar dark theme; the latter apes the F-Sport and
replaces body colour. Inside, the SE sports some dark trim
pieces. It is priced at RM311,900, which is essentially RM 2,000 extra for
darkened bits. The chrome-averse among us might find it worthwhile.
All NX variants can be had in five colours – Sonic
Quartz, Platinum Silver, Sonic Titanium, Graphite Black Glass Flake and Red
Mica Crystal Shine. Lava Orange Crystal Shine and Heat Blue are exclusive to
the F Sport. The latter colour, an F Sport signature, uses a four-layer paint
process.
