Subaru has added an X-Break trim level to its Exiga
Crossover7, designed to give the seven-seat jacked-up wagon an even more rugged
look and feel. The new variant adds a few exterior and interior accoutrements,
as well as a number of nifty features for outdoorsy types.
Distinguishing the X-Break on the outside are black
plastic side claddings, black door mirrors, new dark grey 17-inch alloy wheels
and X-Break badging on the side and rear.
Inside, there’s decorative tan and black leather
dashboard trim on the passenger’s side, along with a new water-resistant fabric
and synthetic leather seat upholstery. There’s also a reversible cargo floor
board that can be rinsed down, perfect for storing scuba gear or muddy shoes.
For those that have not been clued in, the
Crossover7 is essentially a more off-road-oriented version of the ageing Exiga,
which has been on sale since 2007. Changes over the standard model include
black plastic moulding all around, plus silver skid plates front and rear, a
larger, chrome-laden grille, C-shaped LED positioning lights and
machine-finished 17-inch alloy wheels.
The interior was also given a few upgrades, such as
tan leather with blue-green stitching as well as black and silver decorative
trim panels. Suede and leather upholstery was also added as an option.
Eight-way power-adjustable front seats were fitted as standard too, along with
heated seats. Safety wise, the Crossover7 gets six airbags and version two of
the EyeSight suite of driver assists as standard.
Power comes from a 2.5 litre naturally-aspirated
flat-four developing 173 PS and 235 Nm, mated to a Lineartronic CVT and
Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system; fuel consumption is rated at 13.2
km per litre on the Japanese JC08 cycle. Under the skin, the suspension has
been raised by 20 mm to provide 170 mm of ground clearance, and has been tuned
to retain handling stability with the increased ride height.
