A top end Tata Tigor XZ was spied undisguised by Team-BHP, ahead of its launch expected to take place towards the end of March. Expect initial units to reach dealerships and bookings to open in the coming weeks.

The Tigor was revealed at the Auto Expo 2016 as the Tata Kite 5. Based on the Tata Tiago hatchback, the Tigor adopts a lift back rear-end rather than incorporating a separate boot, resulting in a more consolidated design. It will offer a class-leading 420 litres of boot volume.

The interior is all black with fabric seat upholstery contrasted silver and chrome accents. The top-end XZ will come equipped with a Harman touchscreen infotainment system with 8-speakers, steering-mounted audio controls, multi-info display, City and Eco Driving modes, and automatic climate control.

As it’s based on the Tiago, expect the engine lineup to include the familiar 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder petrol and 1.05-litre Revotorq three-cylinder diesel engines, both featuring a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. A 5-speed automated manual transmission from the Tiago could be offered at a later time.

The Tigor is expected to be the least expensive sedan in India, rivaling lower variants of the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire and the Hyundai Xcent.
