The facelifted
Volkswagen Mk7 Golf R is a formidable bit of equipment, packing 310 PS and 400
Nm of torque under its hood from a 2.0 litre TSI engine – gains of 10 PS and 20
Nm from before. For those looking to add a more imposing presence, a
Performance package is forthcoming.
The hot hatchback’s engine outputs are unchanged
with the Performance pack, though it does include sportier items; an air
curtain channels airflow along the Golf R’s side skirts, while around the back,
a rear spoiler and rear bumper diffuser also help work the air.
The Performance pack adds a 17-inch brake kit, Race
mode, Akrapovic titanium exhaust system, and on-board telemetry displaying
G-force, turbocharger boost pressure and engine output. The package also
includes variable settings for damper stiffness and steering weight, along with
launch control.
Inside, sports seats and
carbon-fibre style trim feature within the Golf R cabin, along with a 9.2-inch
Discover Pro touchscreen display when higher trim levels are specified. For the
driver, a 12.3-inch digital display handles vehicular information. The Golf R
Performance package will be a cost option to be made available at a later, as
yet-unspecified date.
