Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) is relaunching its premium sedan, this time in
locally-assembled (CKD) flavour. For starters, only three variants will be CKD,
namely the E 200 Avantgarde, E 250 Avantgarde and E 250 Exclusive.
Pricing wise, the E 200 can now be had for RM 348,888; the E 250 Avantgarde for RM 378,888; and the E 250 Exclusive for RM 383,888.
The range-topping E 300 will remain as a CBU model
as when it was first introduced, retaining its RM4 58,888 price tag. MBM also previewed a
plug-in hybrid variant the E 350 e during the launch of the E-Class CKD,
which is said to arrive in Q3 this year, priced below RM 400k. All E-Class variants remain unchanged from before, retaining
the familiar M 274 DE 20 AL 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine
(with ECO start/stop function).
On the E 200, the mill is rated at 184 hp and 300
Nm, good for a 0-100 km/h time of 7.7 seconds. Meanwhile, the E 250’s
powerplant outputs 211 hp and 350 Nm, bringing the century sprint time down to
6.9 seconds. The E 300 – with its 245 hp and 370 Nm – will
achieve the feat the quickest at 6.2 seconds. The E 200 and E 250 has a claimed
fuel consumption of 5.9 litres per 100 km, while the E 300 is a tad more at 6.3
l/100 km.
All engines direct their drive to the rear wheels
via a 9G-Tronic nine-speed torque converter automatic transmission with a
Direct Select column gear selector. Another similarity found on all cars is the
Mercedes Agility Control suspension – comfort suspension with selective damping
and a 15 mm lowered ride height.
Standard fitments include an
ambient lighting system (with 64 colours), Mercedes widescreen cockpit – two
12.3-inch full-colour screens – each with a resolution of 1,920 x 720 pixels –
that form the instrument cluster as well as the main display on the dash.
The latter is linked to a COMAND Online infotainment
system (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity), controlled via the
touch-sensitive Touch Controls on the steering wheel and COMAND Controller on
the centre console. A sun protection package (rear sunblinds, rear windscreen
electric roller blind) remains present as before. Focusing on each individual
variant, the E 200 comes with 18-inch five-spoke light alloy wheels, LED High
Performance headlights, a reverse camera and Keyless Start.
Moving up to the E 250, the Avantgarde nets you
Multibeam LED headlights, a 360-degree camera, Keyless-Go (keyless entry,
powered boot), Hands-Free Access, a panoramic sunroof, Artico leather for the
dash and a wireless charging for phones that adhere to the Qi standard.
Also part of the E 250’s equipment repertoire are
larger 19-inch wheels – E 250 Avantgarde gets a five-spoke design while the
Exclusive wears a 10-spoke tremolit grey unit with a high-sheen finish. Another
unique bit of kit for the E 250 Exclusive is Nappa leather upholstery (standard
Artico leather for the rest) and a Burmester surround sound system (also
standard on the E 250 Avantgarde and E 300).
On the safety and driver assistance front, all
E-Class variants come with the Pre-Safe system, Active Brake Assist, Parking
Pilot, Pre-Safe Sound and seven airbags.
