Volkswagen started assembling the VW Tiguan in India
in March and will launch the new model in the market next month. A report
from Autocar India says that the company will offer the compact SUV in two trim
levels.
The VW Tiguan buyers will get to choose between
Comfortline and Highline trim levels. Panoramic sunroof, LED headlights,
virtual release pedal, faux leather upholstery and 18-inch wheels are the
features revealed so far. The report says that the Highline trim level will get
the 18-inch wheels, while the Comfortline trim level will likely settle for
17-inch wheels.
Volkswagen India will offer the VW Tiguan in only
one engine model. Under the hood, rests the 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged
four-cylinder diesel engine that is linked to the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch
automatic transmission. An all-wheel drive system is included in the
specification list. India gets only the standard-wheelbase version with a
5-seat seating configuration.
The Volkswagen Tiguan’s bookings have reportedly commenced
in India for a minimum price of INR 1 lakh. The compact SUV’s on-road prices
are expected to fall in the INR 25-30 lakh bracket (ex-showroom) when it goes
on sale in the first week of May.
