The upcoming BMW X2 has now been sighted running trials at the
Nurburgring. The X2 will slot into the gap
between the X1 and the X3, and will essentially be a ‘coupe’ version of the F48
X1.
The X2 adopts the sleeker roofline from the Concept
X2 unveiled at last year’s Paris Motor Show, and it also follows the naming
convention of even numbers for the coupe range of X models, which includes the
X4 and the X6.
Both front- and all-wheel-drive powertrain layouts
are expected with the upcoming X2, which will sit on the UKL platform that
already underpins the current X1 as well as the 2 Series Gran Tourer and the 2
Series Active Tourer. The X2 can be expected to reach
production with a range of three- and four-cylinder engines from the current
BMW Group line-up.
As before, the BMW X2’s interior hasn’t been
properly seen yet, however it can be expected to adopt similar architecture
from the X1, given their platform similarities.
