The long-serving Honda Accord is due for a
replacement now. The next-generation model has been caught being
tested for some time, but the latest spyshots show the D-segment sedan wearing
a bit less disguise.
Photos show a front end that is closer in look to
the latest Civic, with LED headlights (likely optional) joined by a large
chrome bar. Adding to the aggressive face is a large grille that’s similar to
the current Accord Hybrid sold in Japan, bringing the fight to the Gundam-faced
Camry.
It’s clear that the Accord will
adopt the Civic’s fastback styling, with a roofline that stretches out towards
the rear of the car. Interestingly, the fast rear windscreen rake echoes that
of the Proton Perdana, which is built on the bones of the eighth-generation
Accord.
The tenth-generation Accord will
likely utilise the same engines as the US-market CR-V, including a 2.4 litre
naturally-aspirated DOHC i-VTEC direct-injected four-cylinder petrol mill
delivering 184 hp at 6,400 rpm and 244 Nm of torque at 3,900 rpm. Honda also
confirmed a 1.5 litre DOHC VTC turbo engine – in the CR-V, it produces 190 hp
at 5,600 rpm and 243 Nm from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm.
