The Hyundai ix35 unveiled overnight at the 2017 Shanghai motor show.
The new China-only ix35 is 4435 mm long, 1850 mm wide,
1670 mm tall, and rides on the same 2640 mm wheelbase as the ix35 once sold in
Australia. That makes it significantly bigger than the 4270 mm long Hyundai
ix25, also known as the Creta in India. It is only a smidgen smaller
than the Tucson sold throughout the world, including China, which is 4475 mm
long, 1850 mm wide, 1655 mm tall, and has a 2670 mm wheelbase.
The new ix35 has a version of Hyundai’s new
cascading grille, as well as a more formal and upright appearance than the
similarly-sized Tucson.
Motivation from the ix35 will come from either a
2.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine or a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor.
Transmission choices are said to include a six-speed manual and a seven-speed
dual-clutch.
We expect the new ix35 to be a pitched at lower
price points and marketed towards value conscious buyers. The new ix35 goes on
sale in China at the end of 2017.
