The Hybrid Kinetic Group (HKG) has revealed its K550
and K750 SUV concepts at the Shanghai motor show, following the reveal of the
H600 sedan in Geneva earlier this year.
In terms of design, both the K550 and K750 don’t
stray far from the somewhat generic styling already seen on the H600 including the slim headlights
extending into the trapezoidal grille, though there are slight variations
between the two when it comes to shape and size.
The smaller K550 sports a slimmer version of HKG’s corporate face, while the
larger K750 has a taller and wider grille, looking almost like a gaping mouth. More noticeable differences are visible from the
sides and the rear, with the smaller model adopting a more athletic, fastback
aesthetic, while the K750 taking a more conventional SUV shape and a more
prominent glasshouse.
Inside, the family resemblance continues, with both
models featuring an array of screens, leather interior trim and decorative
metal highlights. However, the K750 adds a second-tier screen above the main
instrument and infotainment screens which almosts acts as a head-up display.
There’s also a floating centre console with a portrait-oriented screen, which
also incorporates a rotary gear selector similar to those seen in numerous
Jaguar, Land Rover and Range Rover models. Another difference between the two
SUVs is that the K550 is pitched as a four or five-seater while the K750 is a
six or seven seater.
The K550 in the images is configured with a fixed
centre console in the second row – making it a four-pew affair – while the K750
show car features three rows of two seats, the rear rows both featuring captain’s
chairs. Both vehicles also appear to offer healthy amounts of rear legroom,
which is somewhat vital for the Chinese market.
While the company hasn’t disclosed what exactly
powers either model, Pininfarina says both utilise a “micro-turbine” hybrid
system, similar to that used in the H600 sedan. In the sedan concept, the
powertrain was claimed to produce over 500kW, and a range of over 1000 km thanks
to the range extender.
While there has been no confirmation as to whether
HKG plans to put the K550 and K750 into production, the company is targeting a
2019-2020 launch for its H600 sedan in China and the US. Considering the
growing popularity of SUVs, expect both of the Shanghai concepts to spawn
similarly-styled production versions at the turn of the decade as well.
