The 2017 BMW M240i Performance Edition has been
revealed this week, bringing various visual and performance-themed enhancements
to the company’s sporty small coupe.
The M240i Performance Edition can be
distinguished by its 19-inch ‘Orbit Grey’ bi-colour light alloy wheels wrapped
in 225/35 R19 front and 245/30 R19 rear rubber, a sportier front bumper and
matte-black splitter, black grille, a carbon-fibre rear spoiler and a new rear
diffuser with carbon-fibre-trimmed tail-pipes. Other exterior additions include
carbon-fibre mirror caps and M Performance inscriptions in the side sills.
Inside, the Performance Edition gets Alcantara
highlights on the steering wheel – including a red 12 o’clock marker on the rim
– though the company is yet to divulge whether these new trims extend to the
seats and wider cabin elements.
Under the bonnet is the familiar 3.0-litre
turbocharged straight-six petrol engine, developing a meaty 340 Hp of power and
500 Nm of torque, mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic
transmission. Drive is sent as standard to the rear wheels, though the
company’s xDrive all-wheel drive system is available as an option in overseas
markets, matched exclusively with the eight-speed auto.
The rear-wheel drive version can sprint from
0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, while the all-wheel drive system cuts this down to
4.4 seconds – the all-out M2 claims 4.3 seconds – on its way to an
electronically-governed top speed of 250 km/h.
Launching globally in July, the M240i Performance
Edition will be limited to just 750 units worldwide.
