The Mahindra
XUV500 is expected to receive a second minor facelift and a more powerful
version of the current 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine to boot. IAB speculates
the update could come in the MY2018 XUV500 next year.
The turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine
produces 140 hp and 3,750 rpm and 330 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm to
2,800 rpm and sends power to either the front wheels or all wheels via a
6-speed manual transmission or an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic transmission.
Mahindra will tune up this motor to deliver 170 hp.
Its unknown if the upgrade will see the torque
figure rising. The substantial power upgrade could have an effect on the fuel
economy (MT – 16 km/l, AT – 13.85 km/l) of the 2018 Mahindra XUV500, but to an
extent can be balanced if the powertrain employs mild-hybrid tech which was
expected with the yearly refresh.
The Mahindra XUV500 with the 2.0-litre diesel engine
is currently priced from INR 12,49,078 (ex-showroom Delhi) and is available in
ten configurations. The Mahindra XUV500 with the 2.2-litre diesel engine is
also available in ten configurations, with prices starting at INR 12,45,966
(ex-showroom Mumbai).
