Car companies have traditionally reserved aggressive
subsidisation of on-road taxes and charges until a vehicle was further into its
life cycle and had lost some of its lustre. But reflecting the extreme
competitiveness of the Australian market many brands are offering key models with sharp drive-away deals at launch.
The latest to embark on such a plan is Volkswagen,
which will absorb a few grand worth of extra charges to sell the new ‘Mk 7.5’
updated Golf at AUD 23,990 drive-away, matching its list price before on-roads.
It will also effectively discount the rest of the
range by covering all, or at least some, on-road charges for the foreseeable
future.
