The 2017 Volvo S90 R-Design has launched in Australia, starting from AUD 100,900 before on-road costs. Sporting more aggressive styling and the punchier T6 petrol powertrain, the S90 T6 R-Design is the Swedish firm’s entrant to duel with the likes of the BMW 540i and Mercedes-Benz E400.

Equipment highlights include, 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, R-Design bodykit, four-zone climate control, 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, perforated nappa leather seat trim, perforated leather R-Design three-spoke steering wheel and gear shift, carbon-fibre decor inlays, paddle shifters, power-adjustable front seats with electric lumbar support and driver’s memory function, and matte silver side mirror housings.

The turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-litre petrol engine develops 320 Hp of power at 5700 rpm and 400 Nm between 2200 rpm and 5400 rpm, and drive is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The T6 R-Design claims a 5.9-second sprint from zero to 100 km/h, while fuel use is rated at 7.5 litres per 100 km.

However, the Volvo starts at between AUD 35,000 and 40,000 less than the Beemer and the Benz. The Volvo S90 T6 R-Design is on sale now.
