Acura is returning to the Pikes Peak International
Hill Climb with an assortment of high-performance models. First, a
2017 Acura NSX will compete in the Time Attack 1 class and it will be driven by
James Robinson from Honda's powertrain development group.
The car has been specially prepared for Pikes Peak
and it features several aerodynamic styling tweaks including a new front
splitter, a revised grille, and a large rear wing. The NSX is also lighter than
the standard model and engineers have optimized the car's engine and Sport
Hybrid system for maximum performance. Lastly, R-compound tires will complement
the model's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system.
Moving on, the TLX A-Spec will be making its racing
debut in the exhibition class with Nick Robinson behind the wheel. The
specially-prepared model has a modified suspension, a limited-slip
differential, and a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 500 hp. The car also has a stripped out interior as well as a carbon
fiber front splitter and rear wing.
Acura will also field a TLX GT which will be driven
by Peter Cunningham in the Open class. The all-wheel drive racer has a
specially-tuned suspension, revised transmission gearing, and the same
twin-turbo V6 engine as used in the Pirelli World Challenge.
