Mercedes-AMG has a lot riding on the success of the
GT sports car, especially considering Mercedes’ plan to make it a
multi-generational model. The German
automaker also dropped details on two more optional packages: the Carbon Fiber
Package and the Silver Chrome Package.
The two
packages are of the aesthetic and aerodynamic variety so don’t get your hopes
up of seeing any improvements made to the GT’s engine, but the carbon fiber and
silver chrome kits do offer a level of personalization you wouldn’t be able to
get on a standard GT. The names of both kits are pretty self-explanatory, too.
There are a lot of carbon fiber goodies on the Carbon Fiber Package and chrome details on the Silver Chrome Package.
The cheaper of the kits is the Silver Chrome
Package. The lack of carbon fiber accounts for its modest price tag. But that
doesn’t mean it’s any less stylish. Among the prominent features of the kit is
a new silver chrome front splitter, new fender fins, a decorative strip in the
diffuser, and a chrome diamond grille. Aluminum silver roofline trim is also
part of this package, same with the glossy black intake and hood outlet
grilles.
The Carbon Fiber package is understandably more
expensive than the Silver Chrome package because it uses a healthy dose of
carbon fiber components on the GT. It comes with a carbon fiber front splitter,
carbon fiber fender fins, a carbon fiber rear diffuser, and carbon fiber mirror
housings. On top of all those additions, the Carbon Fiber package also comes
with a glossy black diamond grille, new hood grilles, and a new air intake
grille.
If you’re still cool with that setup, then you’re
going to have a tough choice on your hands. Should you want the cheaper of the
two packages, the Silver Chrome Package only costs € 1,130, which is about US$ 1,500 based on current exchange rates. If money isn’t a problem, the Carbon
Fiber Package will set you back € 4,700, which is close to US$ 6,000 on current
exchange rates.
