As Nissan continues testing the next-gen Nissan
Leaf, another batch of spy shots surface on the web. Twitter user negi1 spotted
a 2018 Nissan Leaf test prototype in Japan that gives away a bit of its rear
design.
The second generation Nissan Leaf comes with a
design inspired by the Nissan IDS Concept from the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The
design is not as dramatic as the concept, but there is definite evidence of its
influence in the boomerang tail lamps. On the inside, there are signs of the
fifth generation Nissan Micra too. All in all, the pure electric car will take
on a more traditional form and share similarities with siblings.
The next-gen Nissan Leaf is said to have two new
battery options – 40 kWh and 60 kWh and Nissan may offer the former at launch.
Reports suggest this unit will have a useful capacity of 38.4 kWh and provide a
driving range of about 150 miles (241 km). In 2018, Nissan may pull out the
60 kWh battery offering a 350 km+ driving range as more companies enter this
segment with electric vehicles.
The unveiling of the 2018 Nissan Leaf will be at a
special event in Japan on 6 September 2017. The public debut will likely occur
at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show on 12 September. The company’s Indian
subsidiary is considering local assembly of the next-gen Leaf, and launch for
understanding the market for EVs as the government envisions India as a 100%
electric car market by 2030.
