The 2018 Porsche Cayenne has been spied virtually
undisguised ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Looking instantly recognizable, the redesigned crossover has an evolutionary
front fascia with a familiar grille and slimmer headlights. The déjà vu design
continues further back but designers have made the car's profile appear less
bulky.
Besides featuring a more streamlined appearance, the
next-generation Cayenne has a sportier roofline and smaller windows behind the
rear doors. Our spy photographer also notes the camouflaged taillights are
expected to resemble those on the Panamera Sport Turismo.
Porsche has been tight-lipped on specifications but
the crossover will ride on the MLB platform that underpins the Audi Q7 and
Bentley Bentayga. This change could enable the model to weigh as much as 200 kg less than its predecessor.
Engine options are expected to carryover from the
Panamera so expect the entry-level model to have a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine
that develops 330 hp and 448 Nm of torque. The
mid-level Cayenne S could be equipped with a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 producing
440 hp and 548 Nm of torque.
Buyers looking for maximum performance should be
able to get a Cayenne Turbo with a twin-turbo V8 cranking out 550 hp and 767 Nm of torque. If that isn't insane enough, the Cayenne
Turbo S E-Hybrid could pack a combined output of 680 hp.
