Are you ready for an electric Porsche SUV? You
better be, as CarAdvice reports that the next-generation Macan – set to go on
sale in four to five years’ time – will only be available in EV form, as the
iconic sports car maker chases for higher sales of zero-emissions vehicles.
The news was confirmed by Porsche CEO Oliver Blume,
according to the Australian publication, which cited the German business
magazine Manager Magazin. The company is reportedly targeting as much as 50% of
sales to be made up of electric vehicles, with planned annual production
capacity of 60,000 EVs at its plant in Zuffenhausen.
This will include the production version of the
Mission E Concept sedan that will go on sale in 2019, along with an electric
coupé-cum-SUV expected around one or two years after. Blume previously said
that the company projected to sell 20,000 units of the Mission E alone.
Porsche’s ambitious target would put it ahead of
other established carmaker, noted CarAdvice – its parent company Volkswagen,
for example, only expects a quarter of its total sales to be made up of
electric vehicles by 2025.
The Mission E, its first production EV, will be the
real litmus test of the technology. Projected figures include 600 hp from twin
electric motors, a zero-to-100 km/h sprint time of 3.5 seconds and a range of
over 500 km, with a Turbo Charging system providing more than 400 km of range
in just 15 minutes.
